Baby Carter!!

Sorry it took so long to get a post about Carter up!! He was born on September 17th at 9:50 a.m. and weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz. He had some difficulty breathing when he was born and was rushed to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), where he stayed four 3 1/2 days. Then he went up to a "Healthy Baby" nursery for 3 more days to complete a round of antibiotics for an infection that he had and manage his mild case of jaundice.
Mommy and Daddy were very happy to finally be able to take our baby home almost a full week after he was born! Everyone is doing well and we are all looking forward to grandparents coming to visit and see their new grand-baby!

My Blessings..1..2..3..

The past week or so has been full of lots of crazy adventures, but there are three blessings that have happened in this time of adversity. First, we finally got our stuff from the moving company! It only took them 32 days to take it from Utah to Virginia, but that is now over! Second, I got a part time job at The Loft, which means I get to spend lots of time around cute clothes and I get paid to do it (I also get the wonderful perk of a discount, YAY!). Thirdly, we just sent in the paperwork to close on the sale of our house in Utah. This has been something that has really been weighting on Brock and mine's minds for the past month or two and after a few false starts on this process we are so close to having everything be officially closed. I know that God is watching out for me and I realized that I need to stop and thank Him more often then I have in the past, for these wonderful blessings.

Mother's Day

So I have to start off by saying that I honestly am trying to be better about posting more often...So yes it has been two weeks since my last post, sorry!
Since this last Sunday was Mother's Day and I'm not officially a full fledged mother, but Brock wanted to celebrate it anyway. It actually started on Saturday, when I woke up to a soft knock on the front door.. Brock had gone on a run so I frantically got out of bed, rummaged around for my glasses and got to the front door. I peered out our front window to see that it was a little Boy Scout. I was relieved I thought it was the movers with our stuff (long story, I'll explain later). I opened the door wondering what the little boy was selling door to door at this hour in the morning, but to my surprise he was holding a vase full of red roses and said "Happy Mother's Day!"
I was completely surprised! I knew that they had to be from Brock, Virginia is a nice place but people just randomly dropping off flowers didn't seem likely. When Brock got back from his run I told him that a cute little boy had dropped of some roses for me...and as I told the story Brock had the biggest smile in the world creep up onto his face. It turns out that the Boy Scouts in our ward delivering flowers for Mother's Day as a fundraiser, it was an all win situation: Boy Scouts raised money, Brock supported the Boy Scouts and made his wife extremely  happy and I got roses :) It was a very good morning!

Then on Sunday there were several more treats awaiting me! The first one might seem silly; however it is important to understand that in the approximately 15 months that Brock and I have been married we have only sat together in church about 5 times. So my first treat of the day was getting to sit next to Brock through Sacrament meeting and Sunday School. Relief Society was an event to remember, the Bishopric had put together a brunch for the sisters in the gym, following a short lesson we had a beautiful assortment of muffins, cookies, fruit, vegetables and finger sandwiches to eat. It was a great event!
That afternoon Brock and I made time for a nap on our patio swing since it was such a beautiful day! It is such wonderful weather; I've been warned that August and September are horribly hot and humid so I need to enjoy the weather while I can.
For dinner Brock and I had been invited over by a couple in the ward, which turned out to be a huge blessing! As I have said before we've been having some difficulties with our moving company. It's been 27 days since all of our belongings were packed into a moving truck that was headed toward Virginia, thus our apartment has our few suit cases full of clothes and such, and air mattress and a small coffee table from Brock's place in Alexandria. It's been a complete headache as we were told that our things would be in Virginia within 7-21 days and we can never get a hold of anyone that works at the company. So with limited supplies our dinners haven't been as elegant as I'd like to make them, when we got to the Jensen's home Brock and I were so excited to have a table with chairs at it to eat at and the meal was delicious! After dinner we were just talking with the Jensen's when our horrible moving story came out, immediately Mrs. Jensen showed us their spare bedroom in the basement and offered to let us stay. It has been a real blessing since Brock had to travel out of town this week! It is amazing how other people can truly answer prayers!

Virginia Sweet Virginia!

After living apart for three months Brock and I are finally together in our new Virginia home. Even though we've only been together here for about a week we've had a ton of adventures. Our new home town of Herndon is a cute small town with local events and (my favorite) local bakers!!! It didn't take long for me to find a little bakery and to discover their wonderful zucchini bread! This bread is the best way to eat your vegetables, lightly sweet and lots of zucchini!
Earlier this week we headed down to Virginia Beach for a work event that Brock had, which meant I had the tough job of enjoying the beach all day while he worked. I was able to get him out on the beach one evening just in time for the sunset and to catch sight of several beautiful dolphins. Who would have thought that we could see dolphins in early May in Virginia? I felt silly, thinking that they were sharks at first but quickly realized they were in fact dolphins! It was a truly beautiful  time!

It's a Pirate Party!

This past Friday was Brock's birthday, so I decided to throw him a little party. The cake was the best part! I figured since Brock use to live in a house called "The Pirate Ship" I'd make a cake that his old rommies and him would get a kick out of....Thus the idea of a pirate cake was born. I think it tuned out really well and Brock had a fun time slicing the cake up! It was so much fun and everyone loved it!

Tulips and Fun

This weekend Brock and I went up to Thanksgiving Point to the Tulip Festival. It was my first time going and I was betaken by all of the tulips; Brock was impressed as well. The flowers were in so many colors and all were absolutely gorgeous!
